Minna- Niger state Police Command has nabbed a 55-year old Fulani woman, Aisha Ibrahim for allegedly killing her two year old grandchild at Karaya Fulani Camp in Rafi Local Government Area of the state.
She is from Funtua, Katsina state.
The suspect took the life of her innocent grandchild after she had tied the deceased with a rope and threw her inside the well in their compound.
Our Correspondent gathered that the grandmother and wife of his son had known no peace since they have been living together under the same roof for some years.
The grandmother it was learnt had taken steps severally to divorce the couples but to no avail.
However, the suspect who had been looking for a means to vent her anger on her son’s wife took the advantage when her son, Bello Ibrahim and his wife left the baby girl in her custody to attend a naming ceremony in their neighboring village.
Before they return back home, the suspect tied the girl and dumped her in the well which led to her death.
When the couple arrived home and asked for the where about of their child, the grandmother claimed that she was not aware of where she had gone.
A thorough search for her was embarked upon, but to no avail until their immediate neighbours who suspected the fowl play raised an alarm and called for the well to be opened where the body of the child was found floating.
The matter was immediately reported to the Kagara Police station and the suspect apprehended just as she was trying to escape.
The Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, DSP Muhammad Abubakar said the suspect had already confessed to the crime, adding that she will soon be arraigned in court.
Speaking with our crime correspondent, the suspect said it was a big temptation and attributed it to the devil.
“The only offence is that the wife of my son had been insulting and assaulting me since they got married and all steps to rebuke and correct her proved abortive and the only way I thought I could deal with her is by taking the life of her only child.”
“On several occasions, I have told my husband to tell his son to divorce his wife but he did not listen to me and I seized this opportunity by throwing their child into the well to express my anger.
“We have been living in peace as one big family before my son married her; I have 12 children and all of us are living in one compound and she cannot come from nowhere to destroy the family I have suffered for years to keep; It is unacceptable,” she screamed as she explained.
She however prayed for Allah to forgive her saying, “I have taken the step before I knew the implication and all I can just say is that Allah should forgive me because it was a wicked act.”
